The Island of Oahu (July 1, 2012)

We got up and went to the Kona airport for our flight on go! Mokulele from Kona to Honolulu.

The airplane was smaller than we usually fly, but we'd get used to it and even take smaller ones.

There are eight Hawaiian islands - Hawaii, Maui, Koho'olawe, Lana'i, Moloka'i , Oahu, Kaua'i, and Ni'ihau. I was able to get a photo of Koho'olawe from the plane.

We took Speedi-shuttle to our next AirBnb place - a sublet condo inside of the Aqua Aloha Surf Hotel. We were a block from Casthead and Heather and three blocks from Waikiki Beach. Our rate was much cheaper than the normal rooms go for, and it was a great value if you stay in Waikiki. If you've never been to Oahu, you may wish to stay here. I would probably stay on the Windward coast were I to come back to Oahu.

Casthead and Heather took us to an Udon noodle place for lunch called Marukame Udon - everyone says it was crazy tasty, but it was all made with fish broth so I couldn't eat it. I was able to have the fried sweet potato tempura though.

We walked the Waikiki strip and saw the old vendors I remembered fondly. There was even one candle stand remaining that I remembered from eighth grade well. It is fascinating to watch them make the super elaborate candles.

Waikiki Beach was as pretty as I remembered...and far more crowded.

Heather and Casthead had already done all of the downtown things, so we got into their convertible and went to a great spot in a neighborhood not too far from Hanuma Bay with a spitting hole called the Paiko Peninsula.

We waited for sunset and visited several scenic overlooks including the Halona Blowhole.

Hungry, we had hawaii burgers complete with pineapple from Teddy's Bigger Burgers and forced Casthead and Heather to get some shaved ice from Kokonuts. Kokonuts was one of the better shaved ice spots on Oahu. Flavor for Kristy included banana and vanilla. Kris got vanilla, bubblegum, and li hing mui or sweet & sour salty dried plum (very strange - hit the palate in three stages). Casthead got banana and mango covered in condensed milk. Heather opted out of her own shaved ice, but did try Casthead's.

When we got back to the hotel, I started blogging on the bed. Below is a sneak peek into the gorgeousness Kris is blessed with daily.

What a lucky man!
